The wine

The Colosi family has been operating for decades in Salina, Aeolian Islands, but the grapes used to produce Nero d'Avola come from the "mainland", between Mazara del Vallo and Riesi, and therefore from two very different areas, the first by the sea, the second in the hills, further inland. An ancient vine for a modern wine: this is how the family rightly defines Nero d'Avola. The most representative red grape variety in Sicily, it expresses a wine with an intense ruby red colour, vinified and aged exclusively in steel in order to maintain its characteristics unaltered.  The nose is particularly fruity with notes of cherries in alcohol, plums and blackberries surrounded by hints of spices, black olives and ink. On the palate it is soft and enveloping, yet snappy, dynamic and fresh, with barely pronounced tannins. It pairs well with the typical flavours of Mediterranean cuisine, but because of its pleasant aromaticity it should also be tried with spicy and strong dishes.
