Review

Characteristic dry Aleatico from 100% volcanic lapillus soils from the Gradoli area, Alea Viva is a perfectly summery red, with notes of pepper, mulberry, cherry and fragrant minerals. In the mouth it is fresh, but above all savory and vertical, satisfying, fruity and crunchy, excellent if served slightly chilled. Macerates on the skins for two weeks and ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts only in small concrete barrels, without the use of chemical additives and oenological adjuvants, with the exception of a modest quantity of sulphites in the bottling phase.

Excellent.

    Summer.

Light, dry floral wine with some overtones of cherry. Drinks very well chilled. Made from the unusual aleatico grape. Delicious.

    Andrea Occhipinti

Lake Bolsena, in the top part of Lazio north of Rome, is one of the most interesting and less known volcanic terroirs in Italy. The combination of lake and volcano, which is that magic ingredient in the wine districts of Umbria, here is still to be discovered. Andrea Occhipinti is on it, a refined and curious winegrower who has made the most of the main grape variety of the area: l'Aleatico. Vinifications and ageing are conducted in steel, cement and amphora, while in the ...
