Altitude does not guarantee a great wine, but when it is combined with a good vineyard and a producer who knows how to interpret their environment, it can make a surprisingly big difference.
Cooler temperatures, the greater temperature range between day and night, and slower ripening of the grapes often give rise to wines that are more tense, balanced and expressive. These are qualities that are especially appreciated today in many of the world’s most interesting wine regions.
This pack brings together six wines from vineyards located in some of the most notable high‑altitude areas of Spain, Italy and Argentina. Six different interpretations of how altitude can influence a wine’s character.
You’ll find the alpine freshness of Alto Adige, the precision of a mountain Riesling, the elegance of Garnachas from Gredos and Calatayud, the depth of a Ribera del Duero grown at altitude, and the balanced intensity of one of the great Malbecs from the Uco Valley.
