Tuscany 1716: the first four DOs in the world
On September 24, 1716, Grand Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici promoted a call for the first modern wine legislation in the world. With this law, the Medici Grand Duchy circumscribed the production areas of Chianti, Pomino, Valdarno di Sopra and Carmignano: four districts which, still today, produce wines with denomination of origin. We celebrate, with the fantastic and award-winning 2016 vintage, the three hundredth anniversary of this milestone in the history of wine, with four great champions of those ancient, and very modern, denominations.
