Poderi Luigi Einaudi

Poderi Luigi EinaudiPoderi Luigi Einaudi

The history of Poderi Luigi Einaudi is the perfect example of that virtuous circle triggered by the combination of good policies, economic foresight and a thorough and passionate knowledge of the terroir. Luigi Einaudi, the famed economist and first President of the Republic of Italy from 1948-1955, was one of the pioneers of quality wine production in Piedmont, centred on the value of local traditions.

Established in 1897 in Dogliani, a land of great Dolcetto wines, the company took little time to gain a foothold in the historical Langhe area, thus becoming the main protagonist in the Barolo district, working on crus of absolute excellence and prime historical importance. There, Einaudi, even during his term as President, personally followed every harvest, and here, today, his disciples and descendants still practice rigorous and innovative winemaking.

The great Einaudi Barolos need no introduction. There is the Cannubi, one of the best products from the most historic and well-known Barolo crus, with its modern and intriguing look, fresh and decisive at the same time, persistent in its unmistakable suggestions of jam, pepper, nutmeg and liquorice. There is the Terlo, the cru which is both austere and velvety, at first jam-like and then powerfully spicy, toasted, ethereal, with original notes of undergrowth and truffle. And then there is the mighty Costa Grimaldi, the crème de la crème, which is garnet red, intense, balsamic, waxy, mentholated, extraordinarily minerally, and full, rich, austere and full-bodied in the mouth.

These magnum opuses should not obscure the simpler wines which are a sample of small Langa jewels like Barbera and Moscato d'Asti: these are essential and perfect table companions, marvellous for any occasion and for anyone you want to share this special moment with.
