Bodegas Juan Gil

The origins of Bodegas Juan Gil date back to 1916, when Juan Gil Jiménez built the winery. Today it's the fourth generation at the helm, combining traditional expertise with more contemporary equipment and knowledge.

The present-day winery, which began operating in 2002, lies on very poor soils at an altitude of about 800 metres. The climate is extreme, with strong contrasts between day and night temperatures and rain practically non-existent. The stony sand and limestone soils have a hard job retaining such scarce rainfall. The 120 ha of vineyards surrounding the winery are mainly planted with the Monastrell grape, the real star of the Gil project. They also grow some international varieties which contribute fruit and spices to some lines, but it's the old Monastrell vines that define the character of this firm's wines.

Nowadays, Juan Gil wines offer all the region's historic character but boosted and enhanced by a profound knowledge of the grape and the land, and this is what makes their wines expressive and enjoyable products that are loved by all who try them.

Bodegas Juan Gil belongs to Gil Family, a winery group that shares media-marketing activities and promotional campaigns with other wineries, and which also includes Bodegas Atalaya, Bodegas Ateca, Bodegas El Nido, Bodegas Tritón, Cellers Can Blau, Orowines, Lagar Da Condesa and Bodegas y Viñedos Shaya.
