The wine

All the character of Toro in an apparently discrete wine which offers far more than its price would lead us to believe. A full and dense wine, but also fresh and balanced, Viñas Elías Mora displays a good structure around ripe black fruit and the rough tannins so popular with fans of Toro wines. Its measured acidity is more present than usual in a Toro wine, and guarantees the harmonious sensations of a perfect mouthfeel and helps the aftertaste linger on for several minutes.

Viñas Elías Mora is essentially a young wine with a perfect combination of fruit and ageing. Its versatility means it is ideal for both informal get-togethers or to accompany more substantial meals. In fact, its intense purple colour in the glass gives a clear clue to how much this wine can offer. Blackberries and violets blend together among soft hints of vanilla and roasted coffee. Hints of earth and tar remind us of the origin of the grapes while plums, blackberries, and blackcurrants mix in with fine aromas of liquorice and cocoa.

It is dense and fruity in the mouth, packed with polished tannins. Every sip brings a discrete floral touch unusual in a Toro wine, while its acidity adds tension and balance. Although it is the starter red wine from the San Román de Hornija winery, its quality places it way above many other wines which sell for double this price. Viñas Elías Mora is living proof that high-altitude vineyards in the centre of Spain are actually home to some of the most exuberant and delicious grapes in the world of wine. A concentrated and very expressive wine, with a good body and a degree of minerality, it offers a wonderfully sensitive interpretation of the Tinta de Toro variety at an amazing price.

Bodegas Elías Mora

As if foreseeing the victory of their later success, Bodegas Elías Mora was founded in 2000 by 'two Victorias', Victoria Pariente and Victoria Benavides. Although they have maintained the name of the previous owner of the vineyards, Elías Mora, the winery is currently run by Victoria Benavides, one of the most prestigious women in the world of Spanish wine. An excellent oenologist and agricultural engineer, she has carried out pioneering work in the...
