Review
Tiefenbrunner, a winery founded in 1848, has always been committed to innovation strongly rooted in a traditional vineyard and winery context. This historic winery, today led by Christof, still focuses on territoriality and excellence, arranged on very extensive vineyards, which surrounds the characteristic castle of the estate, producing some interesting crus. Soil study and environmental sustainability have allowed Tiefenbrunner to churn out, in recent years, a wide and tasty series of selected and experimental wines, working on all international varieties, red and white, which are typical of Alto Adige.
The Merus range, which interprets these grapes with fragrance and aromatic accessibility, finds in Sauvignon one of its own warhorses. Coming from various hillside vineyards around Cortaccia, Penone and Niclara, between 300 and 500 metres altitude, planted starting from about. twenty years ago, this Sauvignon benefits, in terms of delicacy and subtlety, from chalky gravelly soils on moraine sediments.
The result is a great typical Sauvignon, straw-coloured with greenish reflections that announce its youth and freshness in its taste. On the nose it is fragrant and seductive, with pleasant hints of nettle, elderberry flowers, sage and mint, which draw a characteristic vegetable framework but which is very elegant. The taste does not disappoint and is it consistent: it is tense, fresh, but at the same time aromatically enveloping and pleasantly persistent, with a structure aided by four months of rest on yeasts in steel.
