The wine

The Heredad wine range, from Bodegas Carlos Valero, originated to celebrate the twenty years since their first reference was released onto the market and forms the basis of an interesting collection of Garnachas interpreted (and made) by prestigious winemakers; on this occasion by Jorge Navascués, a great expert in Garnachas from Aragón, whose excellent work we have already had the opportunity to admire as the technical director of Pago de Aylés and his family-run venture, Viñedos de Mancuso.

Heredad X delivers flawlessly a balance between the Garnacha’s fruitiness and notes acquired from oak ageing; this is a wine which will delight lovers of wines with subtle traces of vanilla and caramel, yet will also enchant those who look for fruit in all its purity, totally unmasked: those notes gained from its short stay in barrel are very well integrated.

In appearance Heredad X is an attractive wine, exceedingly clean and bright, exhibiting a very lively colour, a shade between darkish Picota cherry and ruby-red. On the nose it is open, expressive, with fruit aromas typical of this variety, exuding cherries, raspberries and woodland berry fruits (blackberries), along with those aforementioned creamy notes from oak ageing, always overpowered by the freshness and intensity of the fruit. Completing its complexity is a balsamic background and some dusty hints which bestow a touch of warmth.

That same balance is confirmed on the palate, as this is a juicy, fruity wine, without any bitterness or cloying sweetness, but silky-smooth and easy to drink; therefore just as much a suitable wine for every day and serving with tapas at informal gatherings, as for pairing up with more elaborate and flavourful dishes. A fine Garnacha from Aragón.
