Bottle size and vintage
The Loire Valley and Cabernet Franc have worked wonders together for many decades. Saumur-Champigny is a prestigious historic wine-making region encompassing nine towns and villages within the valley. At the Château de Chaintres winery, they work the land using organic agricultural methods to ensure it is well-aired and ready to make best use of rainfall. Grapes are selected and harvested manually and collected in small crates before undergoing a second selection in the winery itself. The must produced from the best grapes ferments at a controlled temperature to conserve the most elegant aromas of the fruit. Grape skins are left in for the first ten to twelve days of the fermentation to extract colour and elegant tannins. A little sulphite is added just before bottling to guarantee the wine is a precise one and its splendid expressiveness can be better appreciated.
With its Picota cherry colour and intense purple hints, it exudes the typical aromas of fresh red fruit and spices expected of a Cabernet Franc from this region. It has a stylish, flexible and mineral palate combining the elegance of chalky sand soils and the seductive fragrances of the best old (over 30 years old) Cabernet vines. Vegetal notes (grilled peppers) display the typicity of a Cabernet Franc from cool climes, adding a touch of distinction and refinement. Violets and liquorice appear with time in the glass while fine tannins fill the mouth with elegant warmth. A wine both for fans of this variety and for those yet to discover it.

Château de Chaintres, in the heart of the lovely appellation of Saumur-Champigny, perched high above the Loire River just to the west of Chinon. The Château de Chaintres itself is stunning: a mid-17th-century mansion that combines bucolic charm and gentle majesty in a manner quite particular to this part of the Loire. In 1675, the Oratorian monks of the Notre Dame des Ardilliers constructed a wall around fifteen hectares adjacent to the château, in the sunniest and most fa...
