The wine

Agricola Punica is a project which, since 2002, has brought together some of the most celebrated names of the Italian wine industry: Tenuta San Guido, Santadi, Sebastiano Rosa and the legendary oenologist Giacomo Tachis, creator of fabled wines like Sassicaia and Tignanello.

Barrua is the winery's superior product and one of Sardinia's most prizewinning reds. Produced with the deliberate intention of creating a fine wine, the varieties which comprise its coupage are Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot originating from vineyards located in the southwest of the island, in the area of Sulcis, a land which provides the ideal characteristics for the production of excellent reds. Lying on the 65 hectares which make up the Agricola Punica estate, the vines immerse their roots into stony, clay soils, and enjoy a mild climate in winter and hot, dry weather in summer. Proximity to the sea also favours solar radiation and ensures constant temperatures throughout each season.

The Cariñena acquires some unique characteristics in this location which, in the expert hands of Agricola Punica, gives rise to reds that are rich in colour and structure, powerful, smooth and complex.

Barrua is a Bordeaux-style red, intense, and with a strong personality. An intense and vibrant garnet colour, it reveals excellent depth on the nose and emanates complex aromas of ripe black berries, myrtle, thyme, sweet spices, tobacco and liquorice. On the palate, it demonstrates its impeccable fabrication by means of its smoothness, powerfulness and elegant tannins. Each sip of Barrua caresses the palate and its ripe fruit, quinine and rhubarb notes maintain a lengthy persistence.

Agricola Punica

Agripunica (Agricola Punica) is one of the most promising names in wine production, born from a joint venture between Tenuta San Guido Group, Cantina di Santadi, Cantina president Antonello Pilloni and the legendary Tuscan winemaker Giacomo Tacis. It was he who convinced everyone that fantastic wine can be made from grapes grown in Sulcis. In 2002 Agripunica acquired a company consisting of two wineries, Barrua and Narcao, located in the southwest of Sardinia, in the area known...
