Tokaji wine

Tokajis are Hungary’s most famous wines. They’re called the wine of kings and the king of wines due to their delicacy and complexity. Like all Noble Rot wines they’re very sweet wines and their level of sugar concentration depends upon the number of Puttonyos used; these are hods, wooden or wicker containers, into which the gathered botrytised berries (Aszú) are placed before they’re added to the base wine. The higher the Puttonyos (3, 4, 5 or 6), the sweeter and more intense the wine; up to the highest grade, the Eszencia, the free run juice of a coveted nectar that can cost as much as gold.
