Bodegas Baigorri

The magnificent building of Bodegas Baigorri in Samaniego, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains, was designed by the Guipuzcoa architect Iñaki Aspiazu, with the intention of integrating it harmoniously into the countryside. To the passer-by, only a huge glass cube can be seen among an extensive carpet of vineyards; however, all of the industrious action in the winery takes place below, in its seven underground storeys descending to a depth of 32 metres. Since its opening in 2002, gravity has taken the central role; mechanised pump systems are not used at all during the wine-making process, with the clear objective of maintaining the raw material in the best condition.

The other significant and defining factor at Baigorri are the new French oak barrels which are used in the ageing of all its wines. A perfect balance is thus achieved between the delicacy of the French wood and the intensity of the Rioja Alavesa grapes, always grown according to sustainable principles and harvested by hand under a rigorous selection procedure.

If all this wasn't enough, Bodegas Baigorri also possesses a restaurant with seating for 156, where you can enjoy the house's best wines paired up with some superb, seasonal products grown locally. There's a tasting and events room with magnificent views of the vineyards that cover these lands lying near the River Ebro.
