Ruiz de Cardenas is a very small company, indeed an individual one, but constitutes a milestone in the history and enhancement of Pinot Noir in Oltrepò Pavese and, in general, in Italy. Authentic guardian of the genuineness of man in dialogue with the territory, Ruiz de Cardenas has become a true master of Pinot Noir, so much so that he holds a retrospective of historical vintages - the company was born in 1979 - which has no equal in Italy.
Vigna Brumano, in Casteggio, is synonymous with a sublime and uncompromising Pinot Noir, capable of extracting the best the Oltrepò terroir can give to this noble grape. Small vineyards and selection of vintages, sometimes not produced to meet the highest quality standards, are the watchwords of the company.
Brumano is a Pinot Noir with an extraordinary personality, produced only in exceptional vintages for climatic conditions, and often enhanced with a slight over-ripening of the grapes. After a careful selection of the grapes, the wine rests in one-third new barriques for an aging period of 12-18 months, followed by another year in the bottle before being placed on the market. An authentic jewel of Pavia enology, Brumano is produced and bottled in a completely natural way, so that it can present, in addition to light deposits that should be decanted, an extraordinary variability from thousandth to thousandth.
Purebred Pinot Noir, son of Burgundian rooted cuttings, Brumano is of a beautiful intense and luminous ruby, a fragrant but wonderfully elegant nose, with small red fruits immediately balanced by the undergrowth and wet earth. In the mouth it is enhanced by its amplitude, persuasiveness and fleshiness, by the clean but silky tannins, by the infinitely harmonious persistence.
