The wine

Coromina takes its name from a vineyard over 70 years old in the village of Garriguella where the roots of old Grenache and Carignan vines dig deep into gravel and slate soils. A wine which tells the story of a long-standing tradition of winemaking created from resilient vines capable of resisting the area’s strong winds and extracting the essence of the terroir.

Grapes are collected by hand with the utmost care at the perfect moment of ripening. The must and skins are left to ferment and macerate for 30 days at controlled temperatures before the wine ages for 12 months in French oak. It then stands in the bottle to give it the perfect balance which has led to Coromina winning important international awards.

There may be a larger amount of Carignan in the blend but it is the character of Grenache that stands out with the result being a juicy wine with seductive aromas of orange peel, liquorice, and ripe dark fruits like cherries and blackberries. A pleasant feeling on the cheeks, its charm is rooted in elegance rather than strength. It is an agreeable and rounded wine, ideal for pairing with a wide range of Mediterranean dishes.

The key to Coromina is an excellent and wise use of wood for ageing the wine. It brings amazing aromas and great mouthfeel, but always allows the fruit to stay out front. The wine displays a bright cherry-red colour and flavours including cocoa and vanilla, cloves and toasted notes, perfectly combined with liqueur-like black fruit. Rounded and well-structured tannins delight the mouth before giving way to a lingering finish.
