The wine

Monlleó was the former surname of the Pere Sangenís family, working steadfastly for centuries in the vineyards and making wine from the produce of these lands. Today it’s the name of the most emblematic wine from Sangenís i Vaqué, a red with great aromatic intensity and concentration which represents the most elegant version of a classic-style wine from this area. A true ode to the Priorat and to its slate.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Jancis Robinson

The top of the range is the red 2007 Clos Monlleó, a 50/50 selection from their oldest Garnacha and Cariñena fermented together and matured in new French barriques for 18 months. It has classical aromas of varnished wood, spices, toast, smoke, wet slate and graphite, in a very 1990s style. It has evolved quite nicely in bottle and feels polished, integrated and has some complexity. 2,666 bottles were filled in September 2009.

The wine has lots of juiciness and is fruit-driven, showing bramble fruit, plums, and toffee. The oak is also evident, displaying toast and bitter-coffee notes. On the palate, the alcohol is noticeable and has a dried leaves sensation. Rounded and rather uncomplicated wine.
