Modern and dynamic winery, Tenuta Ulisse was born in 2006 from a real vision: Abruzzo's viticulture had to take a new path, in search of absolute quality. This credit belongs to brothers Luigi and Antonio Ulisse, who experiment in the vineyard and in the cellar with an entrepreneurial spirit and love for the territory. Vineyards are cultivated directly by the family, with a biological method, on a 65 hectares (65 acres) vineyard between Crecchio, in the province of Chieti, Lanciano and Ortona. Generally speaking, the winery is mainly oriented to the valorization of autochthonous vines of Abruzzo, including endangered ones.
The estate is tied to the historical vines of the area, to the traditions of the places where they are cultivated and vinified, sap of a millenary culture which still today feeds the family's passion for wine. People in Tenuta Ulisse are guided by values of concrete simplicity, loyalty to the territory and recognizability on all markets, including the international ones, on which the winery is achieving brilliant success, although it remains strictly family-owned.
All of Tenuta Ulisse's estates have their own peculiarities in terms of exposure, microclimate, soil composition and ventilation. Although the most of terroir is tipically clayey-calcareous and climate is mainly Mediterranean, each estate expresses its own identity. This diversity is a richness which must be protected and carried to the bottle. This does not exclude the contribution of modern technologies, which on the contrary are used with wisdom and right - but ample - measure. The result is a selection of wines with a modern and original style, territorial but also with an international taste.
The range includes many labels, organized in different lines and concepts. Ulisse line represents the homage to the land and to its autochthonous grapes: montepulciano, trebbiano, pecorino, passerina, and also an interesting cococciola. All of these wines are conceived in a pop version, dynamic, for compulsive and immediate drinking. Nativae line comprehends natural and more peculiar wines, with a pulpy Montepulciano and a juicy, tasty and soft Trebbiano.
In the highest part of the range, the trial of the 10 Vendemmie line raises great interest. The bet includes a red and a white wine, produced by blending ten different vintages. The result is a wine with a disruptive personality, smooth, enveloping, incredibly evolved and balanced. Ones who love enveloping flavors will be happy to find also a great Montepulciano aged 18 months in barrique, Amaranta, and some hints of the most popular international grapes, such as a powerful but elegant Pinot Gris and a beautiful rosé version of Merlot.
