Raventós i Blanc

Raventós i Blanc is virtually a synonym of traditional and family-run winemaking. The farm where their wines are made has belonged to the Raventós family since 1497. Twenty-one generations have lived and worked here among spectacular vineyards and woodland, located in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, the sparkling wine capital of Catalonia. The family keep records certifying that they were already making wine here for home consumption and selling must to other winemakers by the end of the fifteen century; a history which makes the Raventós one of the longest family sagas in European winemaking. In 1872 Josep Raventós Fatjó created the first Cava using Xarel·lo grapes from his own estate.

In 1986 Josep María Raventós i Blanc and his son Manuel Raventós founded Raventós i Blanc as a new project for the estate so as to to make the most of this unbeatable terroir. Their dream was to create a reference brand for Cava. The family have maintained their passion for excellence to the present day where two generations now work hand in hand to continue this dream: Manuel Raventós as the firm’s president and oenologist and his son Pepe Raventós as director, oenologist and winegrower.

The vast experience of the 21 generations who have worked these lands and the research they have carried out have led to them differentiating 5 vineyards, with the fruit of La Plana, El Llac, Clos del Serral and Barbera being used mainly for Cava, while the Serral area is used more for their natural still wines (Can Sumoi) and Pepe’s personal winemaking project (Pepe Raventós). Every vineyard is split into different plots with their own identity separate from their neighbour’s. All in all there are 46 different plots, each with their own personality.
