Champagne Esterlin

In February 1948, three families—Fransoret, Dehu and Cadestin—from Mancy, a village on the southern slope of Épernay near the Côte des Blancs, came together around a shared project to produce champagne. They soon gathered 29 membersacross 23 hectares. Since then, the cooperative has grown significantly, expanding into the renowned Coteaux du Sézannaisand the Marne Valley(La Chapelle Monthodon). Today, 70 years later, the Maison includes nearly 200 partnerscultivating 116 hectaresof prime vineyards.

The strength of a Champagne Maison lies in its ability to manage and ensure the quality of its raw materials. Maison Esterlin is located on a 116-hectare terroir, spread across 52 municipalities. Its cooperative winegrowers, committed and motivated, work exclusively to deliver the best to Champagne Esterlin. Over 70% of the vineyards are certified under VDC (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne) and/or HVE (High Environmental Value), with 5 hectares certified organic or in conversion.

The sustainable viticulture label includes 125 measures covering the entire winemaking and cellar management process (viticulture, soil and vine nutrition, soil treatment and cleaning, sustainable farming, waste management). What sets Esterlin apart is its direct management of 12 hectares, of which 7.5 hectares are owned and certified sustainable. These vineyards, planted on clay-limestone soils typical of Champagne, allow for a wide diversity of styles and unique characteristics.

Winemaking

The production and storage facility of Maison Esterlin is located in Mancy, near Épernay. With a total capacity of 15,000 hectoliters, it spans 10,000 m² and houses 2 million bottles, all carefully protected from natural light. A constant temperature of 11°C is maintained year-round, aiding the aging process.

Esterlin also operates two additional pressing centers, located in the Sézannais and Marne Valley regions.

The Maison follows a controlled fermentation process at 16°C, interrupting the second fermentation to preserve the wine’s natural acidity and freshness. Thanks to its non-malolactic approach, the champagnes retain aromatic complexity and offer excellent aging potential.

The Cléo Blanc de Blancs, a premium vintage, is vinified in 228L Burgundy oak barrels and 350L muids. The contact with wood adds softness and complexity, elevating this vintage to a truly exceptional cuvée.
