At present, the land under plantation at Bodegas y Viñedos Valderiz comprises the 60 hectares planted by Tomás Esteban and 10 more hectares which once belonged to his father. They are spread out among 35 or more parcels located on different soils and with various orientations around his home-town of Roa.
The family has been a forerunner in the field of organic agriculture in the Ribera del Duero region, and a total abstinence from the use of herbicides, pesticides and mineral fertilizers has been their hallmark. This sort of vine cultivation has borne excellent fruit. Since the year 2000, a small area of land has been implementing biodynamic farming practices.
The installations have been designed so as to avoid, wherever possible, any damage being suffered by the grapes before procedures begin. Gentle wine-making methods, with long cold macerations, and fermentation with the total exclusion of any oenological products (acidifiers, tannins, glucose, enzymes etc.) bring to fruition a top quality wine.
Maturation takes place in barrels selected from the best coopers in France, using 80% French and 20% American oak casks.
