Alemany i Corrió is the personal project of Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió. They set up their small cellar in Penedès in 1999 and their wines swiftly became cult wines in no time. They have a very special way of working their lands in Penedès thanks to the original way of understanding winegrowing they learnt in Burgundy. Irene's father encouraged them to make wines in Catalonia and ever since then it has been their utmost dedication to the terroir and their passion for winemaking which has resulted in the creation of extremely personal wines, surprising all who try them.
Their vineyards are located in the small village of Lavern, near Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. They grow both French and local grape varieties, a wonderful metaphor of their beginnings in wine making. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a little Carignan are the base of their red wines; and their exceptional use of Xarel·lo makes it the star of their whites. Irene and Laurent are committed to, and successful in, finding a perfect balance between concentration and elegance in their wines. Their vines have to strive to dig deep for their nourishment and yields are limited to ensure every grape transmits the essence of its soil. In fact, soil is the crucial element in the style of Burgundy-based winegrowing they carry out, and they have invested time and energy getting to know their land to perfection. All this effort and dedication is felt in each and every one of their limited-production wines, a perfect combination of delicate refinement and Mediterranean riches. Their red wines are dense and juicy, spicy and elegantly tannic. Their white wines, mineral, balanced and with a clear French influence seen in the excellent use of wood. Alemany i Corrio wines are a blend of craftmanship, wisdom, passion and precision; modest wines that have become works of art.
