* Akilia is a wine cellar located in the Bierzo that was born in 2010 when Mario Rovira, a young, simple and hardworking Catalan winemaker, found in the foothills of the Aquilianos Mountains, in Ponferrada, a cold zone, ideal for elaborating white wines and spectacular landscape that transmits to the came a very characteristic profile and for that reason deserves the name of Akilia.
Akilia born with the will, the effort and the illusion to recover old vineyards of native varieties, as it is the case of the mencía, white doña or the palomino.
With a total area of 4 hectares (Ha), the vineyards of Akilia are divided into three plots, Villarín, Fontairo and Valdesacia, differentiated as much by their orientation as by their typology of the soil (slate, quartzite and clays).
The vineyard has a planting density of 4,400 strains / ha of manzanilla and fine palomino, with a planting frame of 1.5 meters by 1.5 meters, formed in a traditional glass, divided into two slopes and aged between 75- 112 years.
Its wines come from the standards of the Denomination (despite some opinions): little extraction, soft, fine and fragrant.
