Molinara

Molinara is a grape so rich in bloom on the skin that it looks as if it has just come out of a mill. Mill grapes, miller, hence "molinara" as if it were covered with flour, is one of the most identifiable Valpolicella red grapes, certainly native and complementary to the production of Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto. To the round wines of the Verona area, molinara has traditionally contributed minerality and sapidity. It is rarely vinified as a single variety and is a wine with a soft red colour, with fresh and fruity aromas, with notes of wild berries standing out. On the palate it has a light body, little alcohol and lots of sapidity. The rosé vinification is interesting, for example in the chiaretti del Garda DOC Bardolino, and sparkling wine, also as a single variety.
