Wine from Puglia IGT

Puglia IGT is one of the most important geographical indications in southern Italy, covering the entire region of Apulia (Puglia), which extends along the heel of the Italian ‘boot’. With a warm and sunny Mediterranean climate, this area is ideal for growing vines, benefitting from the influence of the sea breezes from the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, which bring freshness to the vineyards and help to maintain balance in the wines.

Puglia IGT

Puglia IGT is one of the most important geographical indications in southern Italy, covering the entire region of Apulia (Puglia), which extends along the heel of the Italian ‘boot’. With a warm and sunny Mediterranean climate, this area is ideal for growing vines, benefitting from the influence of the sea breezes from the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, which bring freshness to the vineyards and help to maintain balance in the wines.

The soil in Puglia varies from calcareous and clayey in the higher areas to more sandy and fertile soils in the coastal plains. The IGT Puglia allows for the production of a wide variety of wines, including reds, whites and rosés, made from both native and international grapes. Among the most representative red varieties are Primitivo and Negroamaro, which produce intense, fruity and full-bodied wines with notes of plum, black fruits, spices and an earthy background. Other varieties such as Malvasia Nera, Aglianico and Sangiovese are also cultivated, as well as international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. As for whites, Verdeca, Fiano, Bombino Bianco and Falanghina stand out, producing fresh, floral wines with good acidity.

Thanks to its flexibility in terms of varieties and styles, Puglia IGT allows producers to innovate and offer both young, easy-to-drink wines and more structured, barrel-aged labels. With its rich winemaking tradition and growing international reputation, Puglia IGT is a key region for discovering the vibrant, sunny essence of southern Italy in every glass.
