Ruché now has only the etymology of the name. For the rest, it is a guarantee of success, so much so that this grape, after almost being forgotten, has been widely revalued, and today it gives some of the most original and interesting wines of southern Piedmont. Currently the best area is upper Asti, towards Castagnole Monferrato, the centre of the prestigious DOCG that protects its production. It prefers loose hilly soils, and always expresses itself with a fairly contained structure: it is a pleasant red wine, even aromatically speaking - with spicy, floral, cherry and wild berry notes - rather than complexity and opulence. The taste is dry, harmonious and pleasantly soft, with good persistence. It likes a modest rest in wood, but is usually appreciated fresh, from vinification and ageing in steel only.
