Cuvelier, great Bordeaux wines

Thanks to their unquestionable savoir faire and excellent knowledge of the terroir and wine production, H. Cuvelier & Fils have dominated the art of winemaking for generations. The firm owns several family Châteaus such as Le Crock, Léoville Poyferré and Moulin Riche, but also have distribution exclusivity for other Grands Vins de Bordeaux meaning they can offer a complete range of wines from the main Bordeaux appellations, the most renowned Crus and its most skilled winemakers.

The history of the Cuvelier family in the world of wine dates back to 1804 when Henri Cuvelier founded the H. Cuvelier et Fils wine merchant firm in the town of Haubourdin in northern France. Immediately successful, the business grew and grew until brothers Paul and Albert Cuvelier decided to branch out and buy several exceptional quality Bordeaux plots at the start of the 20th century.

In 1903, Château Le Crock, in Saint-Estèphe, became the first flagship winegrowing property of the Cuvelier family who extended the 17 hectares of vineyards to the 32 hectares it currently owns here. It was classified as a Cru Bourgeois in Saint-Estèphe in 1932. Next up, in 1920 the family acquired the Château Léoville Poyferré (Deuxième Cru Classé Saint-Julien) and Château Moulin Riche, in the heart of Médoc. Throughout the twentieth century, the firm strengthened their presence in Bordeaux and in 1998 they took their first steps in Argentina, joining Michel Rolland’s Clos de Los Siete project. In 2005 they also set up their own winery, Cuvelier Los Andes, in Argentina.

As well as wines from their own properties, H. Cuvelier & Fils distribute other wonderful examples of top Bordeaux wines such as Château Grand Corbin and Château Tronquoy-Lalande, and smaller label wines also well worth trying: Château Trébiac, Château Valade and Château de Roche Cave.
