Tenuta di Biserno

Tenuta di Biserno was founded in 2001 by the marquis Lodovico Antinori, who is also behind the success of the Ornellaia winery. They aim to revaluate the vine-growing area around Bibbona located a few kilometres to the north of Bolgheri in Maremma. The Antinori family have made a firm commitment to this project, investing in top-class winery facilities designed by Gae Aulenti, and placing the oenologist Michel Rolland in charge of wine-making.

Actually the winery’s projects include three estates: Biserno, where the firm’s principal wine is produced, with Cabernet Franc as top grape; Campo di Sasso, a kingdom where Syrah rules as well as Bordeaux grape varieties; and Tenuta dei Pianali, a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. The micro-climate is similar to that of Bolgheri, with the sea breeze coming in from the Tyrrhenian Sea to mitigate the typically hot temperatures of northern Maremma. Soils characteristically have a varied make-up, making the terroirs more apt for creating structured, silky, lingering red wines with different profiles.
