The wine

Made from grapes sourced from the El Ciruelo plot, a vineyard of barely 0.75 ha, located at an altitude of 500-550 metres and facing north, whose name comes from a centuries-old plum tree that is also found growing in the vineyard.

It is virtually a Listán Negro single varietal (97%), originating from grapevines more than 90 years old, ungrafted root stock, with a small amount of Listán Blanco.

Aged for 12 months on its own lees in 500L French oak barrels.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The 2019 Las Suertes was previously named El Ciruelo, but it had to be renamed because a problem with the brand. Las Suertes is the name of the zone where this vineyard, a north-facing plot on very poor soils, is located. It has always produced the finest and most complex wine from Suertes del Marqués. The grapes fermented with full clusters in concrete and macerated for 23 days. It matured in used 500-liter oak barrels for 11 months. It's 12.9% alcohol with a pH of 3.55 and 5.35 grams of acidity. There is a tad more ripeness here with a Mediterranean whiff of esparto grass. It has more austere tannins. Right now, the 2020 is more approachable than this. 4,100 bottles were filled in November 2020.
