Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

A new white, the 2015 Anteportalatina is produced with Viura grapes from the vineyard San Juan de Anteportalatina, a 1.5-hectare plot in Laguardia at 600 meters altitude where yields are tiny (11 hectoliters per hectare); this vineyard is also the source for the white Añadas Frías, which is only produced in cool vintages (which is what "añadas frías" means). In the rest of the years, Carlos San Pedro has started to produce this new wine, which starts fermenting in stainless steel and finishes in 225- and 500-liter French barrels and one 800-liter egg-shaped concrete vat. Part of the wine was kept in oak for 14 months. Like the Añadas Frías, this has a low pH (3.08) and remarkable acidity (6.38 grams of tartaric per liter). The two wines are very different, aromatically and in texture and mouthfeel. This has lots of pollen and dried flowers in a way that reminded me of a white Hermitage. It has a round mouthfeel with lively acidity and very chalky tannins. 1,767 bottles were filled in January 2017.

Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza

Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza is located within the municipality of Laguardia, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, in a really beautiful part of the Rioja Alavesa, on the edge of the vine-growing region. Pujanza started out on its path in 1998, under the direction of Carlos San Pedro, descended from a family of vine growers with three generations of experience accumulated over time. Those very first bottles made on the family's premises held a unique wine which featured the...
