The wine

A complex blend that includes a number of French grape varieties, Palladius is one of Eben Sadie's flagship wines, and along with its red counterpart, Columella, it has won considerable acclaim both in South Africa and internationally.

The first vintage of just under 2,000 bottles started out in 2002 and, since then, Eben Sadie's has used his expertise and acumen to work at perfecting the elements to provide a sensational blend and an expression of the uniqueness of 'place'. There is a meticulous approach to production that relies on low yields and natural yeasts, grapes kept in open vats and then transferred by bucket to a traditional basket press, with little dependence on the usual trappings of machinery.

A perfumed, spicy nose with herby notes prepares for a dense, rich palate with abundant fruit, spiciness and pleasant acidity, accompanied by the toasty notes of well-integrated oak acquired over 18 months in French barrels. A cleverly-balanced, extraordinary wine complemented by its diversity in varietals and terroirs.
