The wine

Carmelo Rodero wines always show up as different when compared with similar ones, making an impact with their greater sobriety and nobility. This Crianza is not an exception, quite the opposite, providing everything one might expect from a fine red Ribera of this category, with that extra elegance. Remarkably balanced and enjoyable, it’s an impressive wine in its youth and elegant in its maturity.

What does this wine taste like?

A rich ruby-red colour with cherry-pink tones, it is a bright, clean wine which reveals varietal aromas on the nose at first, followed by light toasty notes and a touch of liquorice. A structured, meaty wine, it is extremely well-balanced and generous on the palate, with a lingering finish and an excellent bouquet persisting on the aftertaste.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The oak of the 2015 Carmelo Rodero Crianza feels quite integrated, and the wine is juicy and ripe, but without excess, in a modern classical style. The tannins are fine and the acidity lowish, and it could do with a little more freshness. It has 10% of Cabernet Sauvignon and matured in oak barrels for 15 months. 275,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2017. I found less oak and more balance in the latest releases from Carmelo Rodero.

Later his family moved on from the cooperative and began selling grapes to Vega Sicilia, until in 1990 Carmelo decided it was time to start out with their own winery. Their first wine came out in 1991, and since then the company has grown and grown, acquiring...
