The Cap Negre red is a lovely wine, naturally authentic (made using the minimum of treatments and showing great respect for the vineyard and environment) and a fine reflection of the terroir and the grapes that gave it life: Cariñena (50%), Garnacha (35%) and Syrah (15%) grapes, planted on calcareous granite soils in an extremely peaceful region, although periodically shaken by the Tramontana wind. Lovely, and intense.
In the glass it displays a pretty Picota cherry colour with a purplish rim, clean and glyceric, and the first impressions are of a gentle perfume and velvety texture.
It exhibits on the nose aromas of ripe but still fresh (soft) fruit, of strawberries and blackberries, menthol notes, some subtle lactic notes and fine spices (mild liquorice) that highlight its freshness. This is a wine with a refined nose, without lacking any intensity, a pleasant and balanced blend.
With aeration in the glass, its volume increases and earthy, mineral and also orange peel notes appear; it exudes warmth and we are led to expect a wine with body and oily on the palate. So it is: juicy fruit fills the mouth; it is a generous wine, and offers good intensity, balance and some velvety tannins, with a touch of astringency on the finish. This wine will retain its liveliness for some time yet, but we cannot deny that it is at a magnificent point in time, fruit-forward and rounded.
On tasting, we relish its fruitiness and fineness, and it comes over well on the finish, good persistence, always maintaining that fruit-forwardness from start to finish, concluding through the retronasal passage with some Provencal herb notes and light smoky hints.
If there are wines for moments of calm and relaxation, while listening to music or reading a book, this would be one of them. The last drop left in the glass is pure fruit and leaves us with a wonderful taste in the mouth.
