The wine

Yaso is one of those Toro reds that's easy to understand, not the sort to find intimidating. Extraction is less than in other wines from the region and the fruit flows more lightly.

The century-old vineyards giving rise to its grapes lie on sandy-loam terraces in the River Duero's basin, at around 700 metres above sea level. There, the old bush vines are forced to do their best to combat low rainfall and some very strong contrasts in day and night temperatures.

In the winery intervention is kept to the minimum, with the intention of respecting to the maximum the grape's natural potential. Thus, on pouring a glass of Yaso, we can appreciate the black fruit (cherries and blueberries) at just the right point of maturity and a delicate undertone of cocoa; with a little more time fine toasty notes and hints of liquorice make an appearance. On the palate, despite a discreet entry, it constantly develops, becoming luscious and delightful. Its tannins are very lively, but an almost grainy feel carries it through elegantly. The acidity brings to mind Morello cherries and the aromas of violets reinforce the feeling of elegance. Menthol and scrubland hints round off a harmonious passage with a fresh and spicy finish.
