The wine

Tagonius mania has finally arrived! Ever since the American guru Robert Parker awarded Tagonius Crianza 2004 with a score of 91 points, bottles have been flying off to all parts of the globe... and it is incredible to see how sales have risen directly as a result of Parkerisation, believe you me. What would be so special about a wine from Madrid with such a high rating? Would the Parker Wines vision stand our scrutiny?

To be sure, we have to accept that Tagonius Crianza is a made-to-measure wine, Southern European in style and suitably warm ..., with a bouquet that doesn't deceive. To our way of thinking, Tagonius is a wine tailored to reflect careful consideration of every style going; we noted similar traits coming through in the wines of Castillo de Perelada, where everything fits together seamlessly. A wine displaying elegant concentration, with particular highlights of coffee cream, mocha, blackberry and dark chocolate. In both the aroma-smelling and the flavour-tasting phases, it comes over as compact (tight), and therefore pouring it out into a decanter would be a good idea. As for the tannin mouth-feel: pleasurably sweet, rounded, creamy, nicely substantial and working well right up to the final attack. Sensations emerge of ageing on the lees, providing a fresh, balsamic touch.

Tagonius, tailor-made right here in Madrid!

Bodegas Tagonius was founded back in the year 2000 by the high-powered business consortium, Foxá, which wanted to diversify their business interests and take an in-depth look at the world of gastronomy. The winery is located in the sub-region of Arganda del Rey.
