Carignano

According to some, the carignano, for elegance and complexity, is the noblest red of Sardinia. And in fact, within the great Mediterranean family to which it belongs (the Spanish cariñena, widespread above all in Catalonia, and the French carignan are the same vine), carignano is revealed at the first taste among the most successful versions, thanks to the fact that, outside Italy, it is still often interpreted more for quantity than for quality. In Sardinia, on the other hand, its spread is mainly limited to Sulcis, the south-western area of the island, in the Cagliari area: here there was a miracle that transformed a grape of poor reputation, celebrated only for its high yields, into a wine that is now a symbol of regional oenology, also in important reserves. Intense ruby red, it releases a rich scent of mulberry, blackberry, currant, plum and herbaceous scents. On the palate, however, it is dry, sapid, mineral, warm, fruity and persistent.
