The wine

A reinterpretation of a classic. A fragrant, complex, silky wine made from Tempranillo grapes grown on vines over 30 years old, with 24 months spent in barrel and rounded off over a period of more than four years in bottle.

NOTE: It is recommended to open the bottle and decant the wine between 15 and 30 minutes before drinking.

Matured for 24 months in new (25%) and semi-new (75%) 225-litre American oak barrels, and subsequently for a further 4 years in barrel.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The more traditional 2012 Gran Reserva comes from one of the driest years on record. It's mostly Tempranillo with some 3% Graciano matured in American oak barrels, 25% of them new, for 26 months, despite which, the wine is not excessively oaky. They wanted to keep the traditional profile but adjusted the toast on the barrels to adjust the excessive vanilla and coconut. This is structured, powerful, ripe without excess, spicy and balsamic, developing the bouquet, still young and with very good balance. It should be long lived. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2015.

Sierra Cantabria

The Eguren family has historical connections with wine-making dating back to 1870 and now five generations have been intrinsically involved with vine cultivation in La Rioja. Expert knowledge has been accrued then passed on, with technological advances in production warmly accepted but without totally superseding traditional ideas that are based on an overriding respect for the soil and the vine. The winery in San Vicente de la Sonsierra was founded in 1957 by Guillermo Eguren,...
