The wine

This Remelluri Blanco is undoubtedly a wine-making marvel, exotic and fragrant, and it continues to be one of La Rioja’s best kept secrets. Its great personality never fails to amaze year after year due to its complexity and subtlety. It will improve with a bit longer spent in bottle, although it is presently at an optimum time for drinking.

12 months ageing in oak, with each variety separated.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The white 2019 Blanco comes from a year that was marked by hail and frost in April and May, which resulted in a small crop that ripened early in a warm growing season. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in used barriques, foudres and 1,200-liter concrete eggs. The wine is powerful at 14.4% alcohol but has good freshness showcased by a pH of 3.21. This is a very serious and complex white, with spice and smoke, balanced and harmonious, combining power with elegance. It's a little more fluid, with more finesse and delicacy, despite the fact that they had low yields and the wine has natural concentration. 8,766 bottles and 103 magnums were filled in May 2021.

The Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri is to be found where once stood the Monastery of Toloño (Labastida), on the old estate that formerly belonged to the monks of St. Jerome who, in the 14th Century, worked the lands growing cereals and vines. There are still traces to be found of their community (a wine press and a cemetery). In 1968 Jaime Rodríguez Salís restored the vineyards and the ancient buildings, converting the monastery into the winery it is today, where the Remelluri...
