Victorino is valour and powerfulness, harmony and elegance, balance and nobility; a homage to ancestors, in particular to Don Victorino, grandfather of Marcos and Miguel, and in general to the land of Toro and its grape, the Tinta de Toro.
Summary of Marcos Eguren's evaluation of the 2012 vintage in Toro
The 2012 year began late. We came out of a cold winter, with its lack of rainfall and an abundance of frosts, especially at the beginning of February, and although temperatures rose at the end of March and spring made an appearance, April was very cold, with particularly damp and unstable weather — without it actually freezing – which caused a significant delay in budding with respect to other years.
Stable conditions were restored from the second week of May onwards; temperatures went up and the vines underwent rapid development. A hot and totally dry summer ensued, which gave rise to extremely healthy grape clusters, and it remained that way until harvest-time. The grapes ripened perfectly well and symptoms of hydric stress were only noticed on certain lighter types of ground. Some late refreshing rain had just favoured the end of ripening and improved the vegetative state, so the harvest started in the last week of September.
The result: complete maturity, both in the physiological and aromatic as well as the phenolic sense, and some very healthy grape clusters.
The size of the bottle influences ageing of the wine. The smaller the bottle, the faster it ages.
This is why great wines always come in big bottles.
