Negre de Negres is in essence a Garnacha wine, made from Mediterranean Garnachas. It is produced using grapes of various Garnacha strains (50%) primarily, with lesser percentages of other varieties (thus its name, a ‘red of reds’; around 30% Cariñena, 20% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Franc, varying according to each vintage), and it is a wine which expresses, with the utmost elegance, the Mediterranean countryside (revealing the aromas of the plants that flourish in the environs of the vineyards: thyme, rosemary, lavender…) and the unmistakable Priorat minerality.
Negre de Negres is made with the grape clusters that ripen earlier, on the Clos del Portal estate, thus offering a more open and straightforward wine than its winery sibling, Somni, for which are reserved the grapes with more concentration. Vinified as Alfredo Arribas prefers, with a short maceration, not much extraction and a respectful ageing, the resultant wine is harmonious, balanced and rounded, with excellent freshness that makes drinking it extremely easy and very pleasurable.
