The wine

Camins del Priorat is an affordable wine in an accessible style but with the class and distinction which we have grown to expect from Álvaro Palacios. The sort of wine we might term introductory, which enables us to become familiar with not only the firm's philosophy, but also the essence of the Priorat, without attaining the complexity of the grand classics or this winery's other offerings. A wine for those who love the naturally beautiful and delightfully fragrant.

What does this wine taste like?

In the glass, most notable are its aromas of ripe fruit peel, juicy fruit, watermelon... Accompanying them are the floral notes, especially roses and carnations, which remind us of its similarity to Pétalos del Bierzo or even to Franziskaner-type beers in that floral touch, and discernible notes of banana. On the palate, it appears accessible, with a velvety texture and plenty of fruitiness, of blackberries and blackcurrants. Balanced, with good body, length and some sumptuous yet also silky tannins.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Jancis Robinson

The more modern and different 2021 Camins del Priorat, a blend of 40% Garnacha, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 15% Cariñena and 6% Syrah, is a little more balsamic with some herbal notes and some dusty tannins. It's powerful with 14.5% alcohol and has good balance. This fermented 100% destemmed in concrete and stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak barrels and vats for six months. 246,000 bottles and 2,000 magnums produced. It was bottled from April 2022.

Deep, glowing crimson. Lovely freshness and attack on the nose. Such obvious competence! Round and ready to gulp. Very light tannins and a really tight structure. Proper wine. Firm not sweet finish. Elderberries? VGV - Very good value.

Camins del Priorat is made primarily from indigenous varieties coming from vineyards in various municipalities (Gratallops, Porrera, Torroja, La Vilella Alta and La Vilella Baixa, Bellmunt, El Molar, El Lloar and Poboleda), at different altitudes and orientations, and from vines of varying ages (between 10 and 40 years old).

Álvaro Palacios

Álvaro Palacios

Álvaro Palacios came to the Priorat in 1989, to the town of Gratallops to be precise, following the lead of a group of local producers fully intending to pass on through their wines all the character of this land, full of its own brightness, with the shining Mediterranean sun, the gleaming slate in rocky crags, and brightly-coloured fennel in the olive groves. This is mystic, spiritual country tracing back its past to the Carthusian monks, who worked at cultivating vines...
