The very old vineyards of the Pago del Pisón, aged over 50 years old, and a sound maturation have given rise to a wine that could become a legend. It is faring extremely well for recognition and praise, including the highest from Robert Parker: Viña el Pisón 2004 has been recognized as one of the best wines according to the rating of the highly-regarded American, awarded 100 points in the 2007 list, a distinction shared with four other compatriots, Pingus 2004, Termanthia 2004, Contador 2004 and Clos Erasmus 2004.
There is nothing but surprise and admiration for its intense and seductively complex aroma, very expressive, a mixture of forest fruits with herbs, minerals and hints of liquorice (anise). It is outstanding on the palate. It shows great structure and balanced acidity, with dry, powerful tannins and considerable fruit, that comes through especially after a couple of minutes in the glass and which will surely remain over many more years in the bottle.
Aged for 13 months in French oak barrels.
